A GEOLOGICAL PHENOMENON

The Jettegrytene potholes in Reinsfoss are among nature's most fascinating creations. Formed near the end of the last Ice Age thousands of years ago, they are the result of immense natural forces that shaped the landscape we see today.

As glaciers melted, powerful streams of water carried stones, gravel, and sand in swirling motions. Over thousands of years, these materials acted like nature's own grinding tools, gradually carving deep and perfectly rounded formations into the solid bedrock. The result is a spectacular geological phenomenon that provides a rare glimpse into the forces that shaped the region after the retreat of the ice.

These ancient formations are more than just beautiful landmarks. They tell a story that stretches back thousands of years and stand as a reminder of the incredible power of water, ice, and time. Each pothole is unique, bearing witness to a remarkable chapter in the Earth's geological history.

Through Jettegrytene AS, we are committed to preserving and sharing this story. Whether visitors come to explore, learn, photograph, or simply enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings, we hope they leave with a deeper appreciation for the wonders of nature and the history that lies beneath their feet.

Welcome to Jettegrytene.

Our story

Jettegrytene AS is a family-owned company with deep roots in the Espestøyl farm in Nissedal, Norway. For generations, the family has had a close connection to the surrounding landscape, nature, and history that make this area so unique.

With a strong desire to preserve this natural heritage and create something that could be passed on to future generations, Tellef Espestøyl and Tora Bjørg Austenå founded Jettegrytene AS together with one of their five children. What began as a shared dream has grown into a long-term commitment to protecting and developing one of Norway's most remarkable natural treasures.

For us, Jettegrytene is about much more than a destination. It is about family, tradition, and stewardship. We want to create a place where visitors can experience the beauty and power of nature, find peace and inspiration, and create memories that will last for years to come.

As a family business, we believe in sustainable development and in preserving the landscape for future generations. Our goal is to make this extraordinary place accessible while respecting the natural environment and the history that surrounds it.
